This article explains the current rules and requirements for sending an international transfer to India through Neema, including sending to a bank account and a digital wallet (UPI)

Important notes and restrictions

  • Transfer limits: Up to $15,000 per transaction(except for UPI); up to $30,000 month.

  • Each customer must have their own individual account to use this service.

  • Transfers to Corporation Bank and Syndicate Bank are now replaced with transfers to UNION Bank or CANARA Bank due to bank mergers. Ask your bank for the new IFSC code.

  • Neema offers service to all banks in India via real-time processing using the official RBI (Reserve Bank of India) remittance platform called MTSS (Money Transfer Service Scheme).

Sending to bank accounts

  • Required information of the beneficiary:

    • Bank account in India linked to the beneficiary.

  • First-time receiver steps:

    • No special registration steps required for the receiver beyond having a bank account linked to their mobile number.

  • Fee:

    • Up to $100: $2.99

    • $100.01 to $2,500: $3.99

    • $2,500.01 to $5,000: $6.99

    • Over $5,000: $9.99

  • Transaction limit:

    • Single transaction limit: Up to $15,000.

    • Daily/Monthly limit: Up to $30,000.

  • Transfer time:

    • In more than 95% of cases, the transfer takes no more than 5 minutes.

    • Most transfers take no more than 1 hour, and no more than 24 hours.

  • Transaction currency:

    • INR (Indian Rupee)

  • Additional information:

    • If 24 hours have passed, check if there is a national holiday in India before contacting customer support

Sending to digital wallets

UPI - Unified Payments Interface

  • Required information of the beneficiary:

    • A bank account in India linked to a mobile number and registered with UPI.

    • UPI transactions can be initiated through apps such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, and others.

  • First-time receiver steps:

    • NRIs can use their international mobile numbers to activate UPI by linking them to their NRE or NRO accounts.

  • Fee:

    • Up to $100: $2.99

    • $100.01 to $2,500: $3.99

    • $2,500.01 to $5,000: $6.99

    • Over $5,000: $9.99

  • Transaction limit:

    • Maximum of ₹100,000 per transaction when using UPI.

  • Transfer time:

    • In more than 95% of cases, the transfer takes no more than 5 minutes.

    • No more than 24 hours.

  • Transaction currency:

    • INR (Indian Rupee)
